Goodbye...

Alas! The short-lived blog, the story of Sunshine the Fish.

On October 27th, Sunshine Fish died. The cause of death was unknown, it was suspected, however, that it could have been the water change a week earlier that had caused bright red abrasion marks on the mouths of Sunshine and Susanna. Susanna had passed on a few days prior to Sunshine. It was also suspected that they could've choked on their new food which had just been changed to accomodate their rapidly growing size.

TFC is now left with only a little orange snail, Miss Susan Pickles, who had so faithfully cleaned out the tanks of both Sunshine and Susanna while they were alive. They were the last of TFC, and the longest surviving citizens for the past 9 months.

Weeks earlier, Sir Justin, the new baby guppy, had died from water contamination.

In memory of all those who had brought smiles and cheer to those who peered into The Fish Corner...

The Arrival

Sir Justin finally arrived after days of anticipation. Sunshine peered out from the walls of her tank to take a peek at the tiny little tank that was being brought in, but could hardly see anything, apart from the many weeds encircling the insides of it. She was baffled. Maybe he's just too tiny.

The tiny little tank settles down beside Susanna, and she had a nice good look at it before her view was deliberately obstructed by a piece of paper. Ah, there he is. That tiny little thing. So that's our new neighbour, she thought to herself.

Meanwhile, Sir Justin swims around in his new home, happily enjoying the coziness and comfort of his green, weedy world.

A game of worms

With a new baby fish coming over the weekend (or probably much sooner than expected!), and the tension rising between the 2 fish tanks, Sunshine feels as though she ought to be the supreme fish of all fishes. Then there'd be no other fish cuter, no other fish bigger, no other fish greater, and most of all, no other fish higher than her. Then I'd be the best! Muahahaha!!

Oh yes, you evil little fish. She's such an impish little fish, isn't she? Ah well, that's just so Sunshine. She'd turn any lunch or dinner into a fun, hair-raising game of chase-those-tiny-worms-around-until-they-freak-and-die-of-shock. Or rather, the pounce-on-em-lil-vermins kind.

Day by day, the water turns a lil more on the dull side, as those green shades appear on the walls sooner than Miss Susan Pickles can handle. I hope Esther cleans them soon! Sunshine thinks, as she darts around looking for a clear spot on the wall to peer out of.

Predator...

The worms in her food were getting bigger and larger each day. They swam around in fright each time her owner drops those little bites of shrimp flakes into her little tank. And just how she loved to watch them wriggle and wriggle furiously in fear trying to get away from her as she surfaces and prepares to pounce. Ah, them sweet tasting worms again...

And as real as it could be, she could almost hear a barely audible scream escaping from the guts of those tiny wriggling things under her fearsome eyes...

It's time...

The Newcomer...

Sunshine isn't very pleased today. She has been hearing stories of that new fellow who'll be coming to stay with them soon. Oh I'll kill it!! Oh yeah, I'll kill it real good! "Sunshine, that's very selfish of you not to share your tank with anyone else. You bad, bad fish." Oh yeah, she's heard that phrase a thousand million times, but does she care? No! It's mine! All mine! Ah, selfish little Sunshine. Even Susanna finds it difficult to even live next door.

Susanna won't share her tank either.

Sunshine feels that Sir Justin, the new baby guppy who'll be coming along pretty soon, should be FOOD instead. Since he's so tiny and so irritatingly cute, why not eat him? Then I'd be cutest of all! Muahahaha!! Ah, the evil plots of Sunshine the fish. Where did she ever get them from, some might wonder.

Probably one of the reasons why there's only Sunshine and Susanna, and no other fish besides?

Suddenly, Sunshine feels threatened. What if her owner would love Sir Justin more than she had loved Sunshine before? That mustn't happen! She narrows her eyes at Miss Susan Pickles and frowns an unbecoming frown. "Sunshine, be good to Sir Justin when he comes, okay?" Jealousy boils with a darker shade of green deep down in her guts as she throws a tantrum up the front of the tank. With a swish of her fine orange tail, she throws the stones up in a storm and spits them around in a rage of fury.

Miss Susan Pickles looks up from her side of the tank in surprise and wonders what made Sunshine so frustrated again today. Ah, probably throwing one of her many tantrums again...

Of shrimps, brine and... WORMS?

One fine, cool Thursday morning, Sunshine woke up to the growls of her hungry tummy yelling out for food to come tumbling down from above. But to her dismay, she watches as her owner quickly hurries out the door. She must be late again, thought Sunshine. Oh well, guess there goes my breakfast.

Sunshine waits... and waits... and waits. The clock ticks 12PM and still no sight of her dear owner. Where could she be? Sunshine knows pretty well her owner's daily schedule, and normally on Thursdays, she'd be back from class by 12, and off again before 2PM. But still no sight of her. Hmm....hmm...

A longer wait till 3PM. Sunshine is bored. She pecks at Miss Susan Pickles, who is busy at work cleaning the algae off the walls. Miss Susan Pickles is once again thrown off the wall, but she patiently slides back up, slowly. Real slowly. Sunshine gets a lil bit frustrated and starts throwing up the little stones at the bottom of the tank. Makes a lil noise from there.

Then she looks up... and she sees... Ah, my owner is home! What joy! Flakes of fish food falls down from above to the surface of the water... and Sunshine greedily gobbles up every single morsel of it. But wait! There's something extra! WORMS! she thought. Yes! Tiny little wriggling worms in the water, amongst the flaky fishfood. Really tiny. Sunshine grins. Ah, what a treat. She backs up a bit... gets ready. And *POUNCE*!! Ouch, that must've hurt. Down goes the worms to her tiny little belly. Ah yes, what a treat. Yum!!

A Fish's Point Of View

The story of Sunshine, the fish.

Who am I? It's me, Sunshine, the cute little orange fish from my dear owner Esther's cute little fish tank. I swim, I eat, I bite other fishes. I'm a young Cichlid, about an inch and half long. When I grow up, I can get as long as 4-6 inches, and really, really big. I'm a pretty mean fella, I don't like other fish, and I'll bite when I see one. I've killed a poor little fish who looks like me, Poppy; and also Wendy's little fighting fish whom she put into my little tank. Well, that's me, I'm extremely territorial, so don't come near or else I'll bite!

I have frequent arguments with Susanna Fish too, although she lives in the other little tank. We just don't enjoy the sight of each other, so Esther has to block us from seeing each other with a little piece of paper.

Everything's little in my world. I also happen to share my little tank with a little snail called Miss Susan Pickles. I sometimes pick on her by pecking her shell and throwing her off the walls. Well you can call me mean, but that's just me. Miss Susan Pickles sometimes takes a few days leave from my little home to go next door and spring clean for Susanna. Susanna used to have her own cleaner, Garby the algae-eater fish. Sad to say, he succumbed to a gruesome murder; bitten to death by 4 evil monsters, one of which includes SUSANNA. Poor Garby.

This blog is also dedicated to all the fish we used to live with, but have gone away for a very long time. Perhaps forever.
